The PicoBoo MAX and the BooBox both use the same MP3 decoder so there's no need to record each one individually. Just copy your sounds to an SD card - you can use up to 8 different sounds and noises.
You can either sync up ambient audio tracks with your programmed ambient animations or you can fill the SD card up with freaky sounds and it will play them while the prop sits.
The PicoBoo MAX has the same awesome Class D amplifier as the other PicoBoo controllers except it's in stereo, giving you two channels of audio at 15 watts for each! Needless to say, this sucker is LOUD.
You can hit the amplifier's full output power with two 4 ohm speakers and a power supply of at least 3 amps. Your typical 1 amp power supply is loud enough for most applications, but as the volume increases, your sounds can get a little distorted.
Works With Director Software
The PicoBoo MAX is another one of our fine Halloween prop controllers that is compatible with our free Director software so you can put together dazzling and intricate scenes using your keyboard and mouse. The Director program will save your masterpiece to the PicoBoo MAX's SD card.
Programming in Real-Time
Use the on-board buttons to control and customize your haunted house production or create advanced movements for your props. You can program all of the outputs at once or simply do them one by one. One button for each output makes programming a breeze as all you need to do is hit record and start animating - your PicoBoo MAX records the sequence that you create and then plays it back perfectly.
The PicoBoo MAX has four 10 amp relay outputs brought out to two pluggable terminal blocks - each output has both a normally open and normally closed contact so you'll be able to control just about anything you want.Animation is recorded at 30 frames per second and up to 30 minutes can be recorded in each of the scenes. The ambient and trigger scenes can each sequence through up to 8 scenes, allowing for different animation on each trigger.
Creepy Ambient Mode
The PicoBoo MAX provides advanced customization to allow you to not only play sounds, but also animate your outputs while the prop is waiting in ambient mode. Set up your haunted house props with an animation for your guests to see as the come up to the source of their horror!
Trigger Input for Prop Activation
The PicoBoo MAX also comes with a trigger input to allow you to connect a variety of triggers to activate your prop. Use an infrared motion sensor, a beam sensor, a pressure step mat, or have an actor use a button or hand trigger. If you want to just run the prop continuously, just connect the - and the IN trigger pins with a small wire.
Our selection of triggers can be seen here.
The PicoBoo MAX has a write protection mechanism so you don't have to worry about accidentally deleting or changing your program.

Will this controller run servos?
Is there a way to loop the program?Yes, you simply put a piece of wire into the trigger input.
Can I use a 12V DC 10 Amp power supply with this controller?Yes, as long as the power supply is 12V DC and at least 1Amp. You can never have too many amps, but never supply more voltage!
Do I need any type of diodes when I use solenoid valves with the PicoBoo controller?Generally diodes are not required. Sometimes very electrically noisy devices do require them (such as large motors). See the document Installing a DC Diode for feedback absorption for more information.
Will the PicoBoo control and power 24V DC devices? It will control them but it does not supply 24VDC power to the devices. You would need a separate 24V power supply. Click here for wiring information.
Can the motion sensor trigger be 5VDC or must it be 12VDC?Short answer: Not easily. Long answer: The controller provides 12VDC to power triggers. It will not supply 5VDC. If you need to use 5VDC you can power your motion sensor with your own 5VDC power supply or follow the instructions here to step the 12VDC voltage down to 5VDC.
Scare sound only plays for 2 secondsThe scare sound will only play as long as the animation. Record longer animation.
PicoBoo will not activate the 1/2" high-flow valve (or it activates it sporadically)If you are using the 1Amp power supply that came with the PicoBoo it is not large enough to also power the large 1/2" valve. You need to go up to a 12V 5A power supply.
Can these be battery powered? The PicoBoo and BooBox controllers can run off of a 12V battery. We recommend one with high amperage such as a car, motor cycle, or alarm system battery.
Is it possible to trigger this controller with a wireless remote from Home Depot?NO! Motions sensors from the hardware store are 120V AC and will burn up the controller. Only 12VDC trigger devices must be used with the controllers.
After the PicoBoo is triggered and running animation, will another trigger during the animation restart the animation? No, the program will run to completion.
Is there a way to delay the sound starting, say for a few seconds, once the trigger is activated? The way to do this is to record some silence into the beginning of your audio file.
I would like to have a 10 second pause between triggered events.Record the sequence on the PicoBoo but wait 10 seconds before tapping record to save. That will add 10 seconds of “post delay” during which time a sensor will not be able to activate the PicoBoo.
How do I make it continuously play without having to trigger it?Simply put a jumper (piece of wire) into the trigger input terminals and it will play the program continuously.
Can a reed switch be used as a trigger?Yes. Most reed switches are normally-closed, so depending on your application you might have to set the trigger mode on the PicoBoo to normally-closed too. Either way it will work.
Can I run a PicoBoo from a battery?Yes, you can run them from a 12V battery. More information can be found here
Would there be any problems if I wired one trigger to activate two PicoBoo controllers at the same time? That can be done by following the instructions in this document.
Can I have the recorded program run and repeat indefinitely without needing to be triggered each time?Yes.
