We began by looking at the FireFly® FF-301. The FireFly® FF-351 retains 100% of the FF-301’s features. Then we updated the microprocessor (its brain). You asked for more internal audio tracks and we listened. Now you can quickly choose between two (2) continuous loops and three (3) triggered tracks. We’ve added some really sophisticated audio switching for those of you using your FireFly® for special effects other than lightning. The new unit includes a complex test routine that will not only confirm proper operation of your FF-351, it will also test the compatibility of third-party LED fixtures. And for you power users, we also added thermal protection to shut the unit down in the unlikely event that it would overheat.
If all that isn’t enough, even though there are some very powerful and complex options available, the FF-351 will work right out of the box. If you get lost or confused with the settings, simply do a factory reset and you’re back up and running within seconds. Plug in some lights… connect your audio system and plug the FF-351 into an ordinary wall outlet and the storm will begin in seconds. If you have customized your system, it will remember your settings, even when powered down or unplugged.
LIGHTING CONTROL CHANNELS
FireFly® model FF-351 is a premium microprocessor-controlled three-channel lightning simulator which offers two channels of lightning, plus a third dedicated dimmer channel. Two channels can be used for lightning effects plus one channel can be connected to house lights, porch lights or even a lamp in the window for dimming effects. When there is a close “lightning strike”, not only do you see the lightning flash, but lights connected to the third channel will dim and flicker as though power is about to go out. Very realistic! In addition, there is an all-new strobe control never before available on a lightning simulator. This 1/4" jack can connect to professional strobe lights with a control jack. Then, the strobe will provide an extra 'kick' to loud thunder strikes. The louder the thunder, the faster the strobe fires!
A maximum of 3,000 watts of lights can be connected to the FF-351.
Not only will the test routine confirm proper operation of the FF-351, it will also test compatibility of connected lights in two ways. First each light will individually ramp from off to full brightness to confirm that they dim appropriately. Next, each light will be rapidly pulsed to confirm they have adequate response time for lightning simulation.
ADVANCED AUDIO SWITCHING
No more special cables or adapters required when doing special effects with the FF-351. You can easily choose the audio source for each channel independently. Even if you choose monaural audio for your lightning simulation, the FF-351 will still pass stereo audio through to your speakers.
The internal audio tracks use lossless (uncompressed) 16-bit audio sampled at 44.1KHz for true CD quality, resulting in far better audio than MP3 or other compressed files.
To protect the user as well as connected equipment, the FF-351 utilizes a switch mode power supply as well as solid state optical isolation to separate high voltage circuits from audio and control circuits.
FireFly® was designed to support a wide variety of lights. For best results, we recommend our ProLight™ 400 high-power LED light, which we designed specifically for lightning simulation. The intense white light and quick reaction time of these lights is unsurpassed in simulating lighting. FireFly® also supports dimmable compact fluorescent, some dimmable LEDs, conventional incandescent, cold cathode, and Halogen bulbs.
In order to insure that lights fire quickly and offer the appropriate dynamic range, adjustable threshold controls are accessable via the Menu button for easy end-user optimization.
At any time, FireFly® controls can be restored to factory default via the Menu control.
The FF-351 uses digital phase cut dimming so that the intensity of the light directly corresponds with the amplitude (volume) of the thunder.
